Wrong Ramen (Burgos Circle, Taguig)

One rainy day we visited the famous Wrong Ramen at the Burgos Circle. We've heard plenty of buzz surrounding this place so we decided to finally give it a try.

The place is actually quite small (or cozy, as some people say). The upper floor was closed off that day so we could only see the first floor. There's space for about 6 people in front of the kitchen/counter area, plus maybe 3 or 4 more people along the windows. The tables have little wooden walls (a few inches tall) between each diner's area; kind of reminded me of taking an exam. There's a lot of quirky things going on in the store, take these salt and pepper shakers for instance. I'll leave it to you to find the other things in there, because there's a lot of things to see. The place really made me feel as if a young-ish yuppie/hipster designed the interior. And not to mention the menu (which has quite a bit of witty writing in it).

Desiring some deep-fried-doom we had ourselves some Bacon and Cheese Katsu. It is what it is: 2 bacon slices with cheese in between them, all breaded up and deep fried. There's some alfalfa sprouts on top, along with a sauce that tasted vaguely like tonkatsu sauce. It's nice, of course. Everything with bacon is nice. Could have used some more animal protein in there though. Me like my pork! (must be my Yabu/Saboten/Ginza-Bairin katsu preconceptions coming up again)

Alfalfa sprouts really looks like bean sprouts, don't you think? Has it's own taste though :)

Here's the Tantanmen. Reading the description, you wouldn't expect it to be spicy. But it is; you have been warned. It actually reminded me of a Singaporean noodle soup. Laksa, I think they call it. Except this ramen doesn't have a coconutty taste to it. Still, it did have a sweet-ish taste, before the heat comes along. It was quite nice, and it had a lot of ground up meat in there (which also tasted kind of sweet).

We also had ourselves some egg, because it just makes everything special :) Although paying 55Php for this is kind of pushing it. I know it's hard to make these but, come on, it's just a soft boiled egg after all.

This is their Tonkotsu ramen. Reading the menu you'd think it was their flagship dish, the one that you'd get hooked on and reel you in (or at least, reel your money in) over and over. Well, don't expect too much. It's not that it doesn't taste like anything, it actually tasted slightly of garlic and (oddly enough) seafood. It's just that I was expecting more of a porky flavor... Okay, I'll admit it, it didn't really taste like much. Just a thick soup with a mild garlic and seafood flavor. We kind of expected more from the tonkotsu too, maybe that's why it felt so underwhelming. Or maybe this is what tonkotsu is supposed to taste like. In any case, it really didn't do it for us. Wish we had tried the FU ramen instead.

Being located in the Burgos Circle probably means that eating here is going to be pretty hard on your wallet. And for around 1100-1200Php for everything you saw here, I'd say that it is. The bacon and the tantanmen were ok, but the tonkotsu was a bit of a downer. Hopefully, we'll be able to sample the other flavors that they have. Maybe. Someday.
