How would today's modern society survive without deep fried food? I don't know, I'm just going to tell you about Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings near the Home Depot in Pasig. This is the only branch, so eating here may be a bit of a stretch for some. But to those who can (and who have, like us), they'll probably tell you it's the best flavored wings they've ever had in this country.
The inside is quite nice, for a single branch outfit. The entrance is lined with pictures from celebrity patrons, and there's a TV off to the side along with a veranda area. Pretty clean and organized. You also get some plastic gloves when you order, for a more personal wing-eating experience without the messy fingers. But enough about that, let's get to them wings!
Chesca had her usual 6 pieces of garlic parmesan wings. Note: unlike other wing joints, Frankie's serves theirs by the piece (where the entire wing = 2 pieces) and not by the pound. The chicken seemed a little meatier than before, which is good. Frankie's does their garlic parmesan with more parmesan than garlic. This gives the chicken a more powdery texture (because of the loads of cheese on it). It has a good, cheesy flavor; nice and rich. It may turn out to be too rich for some, because the taste can wear on your taste buds after several pieces. Nothing a sip of soda can't fix. Or maybe a different wing flavor :).
I tried out their Caribbean jerk chicken this time around. Their version of jerk chicken was done in a sort of tomato sauce with mostly sweet flavors and just a hint of sourness to it. I kind of liked it better than the garlic parmesan, mostly because the flavor wasn't as in-your-face. And also because I like my wings wet :).
Frankie's serves a lot of different kinds of food, not just wings. We decided to try the Hungarian sausage pesto. The sausage wasn't as hot as I expected, and the noodles were kind of underdone. Still, it's not too expensive and there was a good amount of it. A good counterpoint to the flavorful wings.
All of this was just under Php600. Not bad, there was so much meat on the wings that we had trouble finishing them off. If you're ever in the Pasig area, you really should give Frankie's a try. It's a wing experience you'll not soon forget.
