Wildflour (BGC)

One rainy weekend we took a trip to the Wildflour at BGC. We've been looking to try it out after hearing good reviews about it. Parking was simple enough, although it can be a bit hard to find (it's inside the building where the restaurant it). This eatery exudes an upper-class, somewhat elitist atmosphere. You can see it in the diners; everyone seemed to be dressed in their finest and even had their pets along with them for brunch. It was packed inside too, so we had to settle for seats outside.

First up was some a pastry appetizer. The bread had a crackling crust and was on the salty side (kind of like a baguette). Came with a lot of butter though. But we used it up anyway :D.

We also had their baby greens salad. The salad was so-so, the mangoes added some sweetness, and the walnuts gave the salad some crunch. Dressing was sweet also. The salad greens themselves seemed a little limp, however; kind of detracts from the dish.

Chesca had some of their steak and eggs. Be warned: this comes with spicy kimchi rice. If you can fight through the creeping spiciness of the rice (it kind of builds up as you go through each spoonful), you'll also get to taste their steak and eggs combo. Bit disappointing though. The steak was a little on the bland side for us, and was just a wee-bit chewy. Runny eggs though, I like. But I wish the beef was better. Also, you'll need a lot of water to wash away the heat.

I had their California burger. The beef burger itself was pretty nice, but it's not that memorable. Seemed a bit on the oily side too. The brioche bun was kind of interesting to me though. The sweetness of the bread may throw off some people but I liked it. The biggest letdown would probably be the fries. Kind of overdone, like someone forgot about the fries in the deep fryer. As a consolation, the cumin-y mayonnaise was a nice dip.

This set us back almost 1400Php. Considering everything, I guess most of the payment went to the fancy-pants atmosphere. I guess Wildflour's forte is their pastry products. We should remember that next time if we come back. If we come back :).
